Reading Project Second Book, The One That Got Away

My second book is called ‘The One That Got Away’ and the author’s name is Chris Ryan who is a SAS hero. Chris Ryan lost his squadron (‘B’ Squadron), he was the commander of the SAS eight-man sniper team. When he loses his team in a Taliban sneak attack he ran away and lost his team of seven to get away from the Taliban attackers but they were unsuccessful and all of them were captured except for Chris Ryan. Chris Ryan had to go through harsh weather, disasters, sneak past or fight Taliban patrols and more horrible things in Iraq. He is found and picked up by the army a few hours after Chris Ryan managed to get connection with them. However even after the Gulf War ended (Ryan was lost and found during the Gulf War in 1991) the rest of his team haven’t been freed but Ryan knew where they were so the army can launch an attack and save his team but also to free other slaves that the Taliban held hostage and used to make money for weapons, armor and vehicles like armored jeeps. At last he made it to the border of Iraq and there waiting is the British army waiting for his teams arrival but that is not what they got, it was only Chris Ryan, his team were captured and maybe even killed but they battled well and Chris Ryan admired them for that and they became heroes as well as Chris Ryan.

How Is Junior Presented As An Outsider?

‘The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian’ is a story about a kid named Junior that goes through some problems. Junior has many problems like losing his loved ones and being treated unfairly in a white school called Reardan. He is a Native American who lives on a reservation with his mum and dad, who are alcoholics, his sister named Mary and his grandma. Junior is rejected by his community in Wellpinit because he has gone to a all white school, this annoyed the other Native Americans because they think that Junior is showing that what they are giving Junior is not enough even though the other Native Americans are poor. This shows that Junior is an outsider because he acts differently when he is in Reardan but he also acts differently in the Rez. Junior feels like two different people in two different places because he wants to blend in but the one thing those two completely different people have in common is that they are both hated by other people. In this essay I will be talking about, How Junior is an Outsider.

The moment when Junior first goes to Reardan with a black eye and lots of bruises that Rowdy gave Junior when he said he was leaving the Reservation to go to a all white school and when he got to Reardan all of the white kids starred at him as if he was strange and mysterious like Bigfoot or a UFO. This shows that Junior is an outsider because he is being starred at like he was a monster and this also shows that Junior looked and was treated completely different to how the white kids were treated because the white kids never walked around the school and other places with bruises and black eyes that someone gave to them. This moment is also about how it made Junior upset that people on the Rez didn’t feel happy for him because managed to get into a better school that the Native Americans believed to give whoever went there a better life. The quote ‘Starred’ suggests that when Junior was starred at by all of the white kids he was abnormal only because the Native Americans on the Rez treated him badly but the white kids were treated well by anybody else that was white, even other white people that another white person might not know.

The moment when Junior is seen as someone that is like the school mascot shows that Junior is an outsider because a mascot is something unreal or imaginary and not important. When Junior was seen as the school mascot this shows that Junior is not important at all because a mascot is only used to represent something and nothing else, mascots are only used to represent things. This also shows that Junior is not cared about and someone that is weird to see in a all white school. This moment is also about how Junior is shown to be weaker than the white kids, this is because the thing that is represented by a logo or mascot or any other thing is more important and has more of a meaning. The quote ‘Mascot’ suggests Junior not to be important and not cared because no one cares about the logo of something, mascot of something and other things but people would really care about what the actual thing that is being represented is.

The moments when Junior comes back from Reardan show that Junior is an outsider because all of the Native Americans reject him in the Reservation because Junior left the Rez and went to Reardan. The reason why the other Native Americans hate and reject Junior is because he went to Reardan, they aren’t just annoyed with Junior because he went to Reardan, it is also because the Native Americans believed Junior left because what they were giving him was not enough to keep him happy even though everyone on the Reservation are poor. This moment is also about Junior betraying all of the other Native Americans by leaving them. The quote ‘Reject’ suggests that the Native Americans hate Junior for leaving the Reservation but instead of not allowing Junior to come into the Rez they just hate him for leaving the Reservation.

The moment when Junior wins his rematch in the basketball tournament and he then says that the Native Americans that lost the match don’t have the things that the white kids in Reardan had so Junior thought about what is going to happen to the Native Americans because they lost this match. This shows Junior is an outsider because the white kids have much more than the Native Americans but Junior is in the middle of what Native Americans have and what white kids have. Junior also says that the Reardan basketball team are Goliath and that the Wellpinit basketball team are David. This moment is also about Junior’s feelings about going up against is community after betraying them. The metaphor ‘David and Goliath’ suggests that Reardan has much more things and are more prepared because Junior calls Reardan’s Basketball team Goliath but the Wellpinit basketball team was described as David by Junior because the Native Americans have nearly nothing and are not as prepared as Reardan’s basketball team.

All of the four moments show that Junior is an outsider because of multiple reasons and evidence to support the reasons why and how Junior is shown as an outsider. The moments explain what makes Junior different to everyone else, the effects of him being the only Indian in Reardan, why his community in Wellpinit reject him and the things that Junior and all of the other Native Americans don’t have compared to all of the things that the white people have. These are explained moments in the story ‘The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian’ that show why and how Junior is shown as an outsider that goes through quite a lot of problems.

English Homework Analysing

In this moment Junior thinks about what he is when he travels between Reardan and Wellpinit. However this moment is also about Junior showing what makes him a stranger and different to everybody else but not in a good way. Junior says being Indian is like having a part time job that doesn’t pay well, this shows that Indians are poor because he says that the job doesn’t pay so it is referring to a small amount of money. This also shows that it is like Junior is not completely Indian but he is partly Indian and it is the same as having a full time job that shows that a person that has a full time job is known at their job and that they belong in that job. The quote ‘Stranger’ suggests that Junior betrayed the other Indians and that Junior is not one of them any more because he betrayed the Native Americans by leaving them and going to Reardan. This annoyed the other Native Americans because this made the Native Americans think that Junior was thinking less of them and that Junior did not accept what they were giving him even though the Native Americans were poor.

Reading Project First Book, Water Power By Neil Morris

Water is an extremely valuable source of energy. People use water for many things even energy to power up machines. Water also powers up other things like homes and offices that people work in at when people are doing their jobs (For example front desks at hotels), heat energy to keep people warm, light and even keep factories working throughout day and night. The term energy comes from the Greek word energos and energos means something that is active or working (Things that need energy). Energy is used to activate things and make things work, this helps us do things like lifting objects or even moving them. Water power can also be used to make electricity for our machinery and other things that require electricity. For example when someone switches on a light in a room (or other places that may have lights) the energy sent to the light to turn it on might have come from the power of moving water.

The world of water moves continuously in a never ending cycle that happens because the energy that comes from the sun. The sun heats up the oceans on Earth (also other places with water, for example rivers) and changes the water into a gas (this is called water vapour) and then the gas rises into the air. While the gas travels into the air the gases start to form tiny droplets of water and then they begin joining together to form clouds. Eventually the water falls back to Earth when it rains, when the water falls onto land most of the water comes back into rivers and then the rivers takes water to the ocean and then the water cycle starts again. This is how we are provided with our renewable resource of water. When someone puts their hand over a fast-flowing stream or if they put their hand underneath a running tap, they will be able to feel the power of running water. Rivers flow naturally when water falls from higher to lower ground because of the force of gravity. Water in rivers or oceans also flows because of natural power of wind, currents and tides. We use all these different forms of making water flow to be used as a source of energy so we can produce mechanical an electrical power.

The Arrival Essay

In my essay I am going to write about a book called ‘The Arrival’ and the author of the book is called Shaun Tan. Shaun Tan based his novel about an event that happened in reality. This book is about migration and the thing Shaun Tan based the novel on happened in America when the first migrants were coming to a place called Ellis Island. I am going to talk about how the book shows how migration happens in reality. The book shows what troubles you go through and the many things you do just so you can enter the new country.

In the first picture there are lots of smaller pictures that show different people that are different races and probably different religions too. All of the smaller pictures show either females or males. Every single person are in scruffy uniform and the clothes they are wearing are dirty. Shaun Tan probably showed us many faces to show that migration is common around the world. The artist (Shaun Tan) also wanted to show that migration was a completely normal thing that people went through sometime in their life. The artist also shows that elderly people, adults, teenagers, children and even babies migrate so this means that you can migrate whenever you want if you could afford it.

In the second picture there are a few other smaller pictures that show things that the main character (The man) and his family have in there house. In the picture the objects are very well laid out and this suggests the man is leaving because the objects are probably going to be taken with the man so he wants them in good condition when he leaves his family. All the objects we see in the second picture are objects that would be in a house and this is how we know that the man is going to a different house in a different place. The second picture also shows a picture of himself, his wife and his daughter and this suggests that he will be leaving his family. There are only a few pictures that show specific things that mean a lot to him and this was made by Shaun Tan so we know that the man is going to leave.

In the third picture Shaun Tan’s picture of an immigration centre is closely related to the picture of an actual immigration centre when something happened in reality, migrants came to Ellis Island (In America) looking for jobs to help their families. Shaun Tan shows that immigration centres is always a really busy place with a lot of people lined up to enter the country and flags representing things like their country or government. The artist symbolizes an actual moment in time that happened in reality when migrants came to Ellis Island in America. The artist decided to compare his drawing to a photo of Ellis Island because he wanted other people to know that America is the heart of immigration. Shaun Tan also shows that if you are migrating you have to be extremely patient because just trying to get through the line for hours is really stressful.

In the fourth picture the immigrants are arriving the new city and there are loads of other new things around like new people, new vehicles and even a new hope. In the picture there is a gigantic boat full of immigrants that managed to save up enough money to go to this new city to earn money for their families to be safe. In the picture there are two statues that are shaking hands and this shows the people that there is hope. Shaun Tan shows there is hope in the new city by putting light colours in the picture. The people on the boat are all cheering and this shows that people feel achieved by using a load of money to get to this new city. One of the statues have a suitcase so you know that it is the immigrant and the other statue has different types of things that would be sold and that statue is greeting the other statue so the people think that this city is going to be better.

In the fifth picture the main character (the man) is standing in front of one of the offices explaining who he is and other things like his age, name and why he is coming to the new city. The man has pieces of paper one his clothes that probably say information about him like for example his age, his height, his gender and other things about him that the person at the desk wouldn’t know about. Shaun Tan shows that the man is a migrant and he is has been affected by the progress because the man doesn’t understand the person at the desk so that is how you would know he is a migrant because he doesn’t understand the people at all and in the last few pictures of the the fifth picture the man seems really confused, probably a bit stressed and kind of worried because the man doesn’t know what the person at the desk is saying so he wouldn’t really know what to do next.

In the sixth picture there is a man that seems to be printing out some sort of copy or sheet for the man to take with him to prove he has been checked on or if he was able to pass through and enter the city. The man at the desk seems to be printing something that could be a pass to enter the city or maybe even a fact file of all of the man’s (the main character) information. In my opinion we can’t see the man’s face (the man at the desk) because he is probably someone that we are going to see that same man later on in the story and then he is going to reveal himself (we will be able to see his face). In every three photos it looks like a different man for example the first three pictures in the sixth picture is the same man but that man is not the same as the rest of the pictures in the sixth picture.

In my conclusion the six pictures all show that migration is a good thing because in all of the pictures it shows that migration is a common and normal thing to go through in your life. Shaun Tan made the book to show how life would be if you were migrating to another country. In my opinion the artist has done a great job showing the life of a migrant and how it would be and feel to leave things you love behind but you do it for a good cause, to save those you love. This is my opinion on all of the six pictures.

Homework 5 (How English changed in through time)

Monday 6th July 2015

Through out time there has been changes in the English language and how we said words. In the time when the Romans ruled they spoke English but no really well. They understood but as the years went on the Tudors started and an intelligent man known as William Shakespeare might have been a poet but he started fixing the English language so everyone understood. When the Victorians started their was now ways of swearing also parts of English fixed even more and other things. We did not develop our language on our own but we took words from French, German and Latin and made the words longer or shorter and spelt them differently to how they use to be, for example you would have said cu for cow in German but now we would have said cow instead of cu.

(Analysis Essay Badge) What effects do smaller characters (Barney, Zelda, Mum and Dad) have on role of Felix?

My point in this essay is that small characters do change Felix’s actions and feelings because in the story Felix is thankful against Barney in this quote ‘Barney speaks to him some more in German, pointing at me and the other kids, who were peering out of the tent’ this quote represents Barney’s feelings over Felix and the children he took care of. Barney shows he wants to keep Felix and the other kids safe when he argues with the German officer to let Felix and the other children go with him but he is then thrown into the train box to German territory to be executed just for being a Jewish person. In my opinion Felix probably thinks of Barney as a new father because he takes great care of him and the children and he always tries to give the children and Felix something they want if he has it. This shows that Barney is a loving character and thoughtful person that wants to take Felix and the other children some where safe where they can stay alive.

The quote ‘I hate stories about God and Jesus and Mary and that crowd and how they’re meant to be taking care of us’ at this moment Felix is just trying to make himself more angry about what Barney said about his parents. Barney said that he is never going to see his parents ever again because they died so he tries to forget what he said but it won’t come out of his head. Felix at this moment is upset about what Barney said and he doesn’t want to worry the others so he hides and does not show that he is upset. Felix always believes Barney and he started crying because Barney said that his parents were executed and in the story Felix always believes him. The author (Morris Gleitzman) has written Felix’s language in this part and it seemed he was angry but after reading and thinking about it, he was actually worried that Barney might actually be right.

In my opinion the quote ‘Thank you God, Jesus, Mary, The Pope and Richard Crompton, you are on our side after all,’ means Felix has now realised that this is a chance for him to save Zelda. This one chance he had was to call the Nazi officer for his story and Felix thinks that God, Jesus, Mary, The Pope and Richard Crompton gave him this chance. Zelda was sick and she is also a small character and since Felix can save her life Felix now feels relieved that he at least saved Zelda the one that came with him in this adventure. What Felix did was wave the story to make the Nazi officer come over and then he can show the Nazi officer Zelda’s locket, which had a picture of her mother and her father in a Nazi uniform.

Felix’s Mum and Dad affect his feelings a lot because most of the time he just wishes to be with his mum and dad reading a book and eating carrot soap. At the begging he got a whole carrot in his soap and he thought this was a sign that his parents are coming back to bring him home. But what actually happened was that his parents friend gave him a whole carrot by purpose just to keep his hopes up because really wants to see his mum and dad. Some other times when he thinks of his parents is when he saw Zelda’s parents laying down in a farm dead and all the animals were shot so he decided to save Zelda because she was still breathing. He then thought if his parents were already shot by the Nazis or if they are still alive out their waiting for Felix. There are lots more times when Felix thinks about his parents.

All of my opinions bring me to my conclusion and I think that small characters change Felix’s actions and opinions through out the story. Barney gives Felix upsetting and thankful feelings, Zelda gives him thoughtful feelings and the other kids act as if they are one family surviving together. This is my opinion of the question ‘What effects do smaller characters  (Barney, Zelda, Mum and Dad) have on role of Felix?’

Food Is Love Food Is Life

Food Is Love Food Is Life

Food is a glorious and lovely thing,

Food is a good thing but it is not bad.

Food respect me because I am the king,

When I see glorious food I go MAD!

There is one holy secret about food,

Food could just think that they are just a slave.

I keep eating food but I think its crude,

When food come to me they are really brave.

In my opinion food smells and tastes great,

All I feel in my mouth is tasty food.

No wonder fish always eat food as bait,

When is see food I will be in the mood.

When I eat food I feel like a white dove.

We all know really well that food is love.

Food Is Love Food Is Life By Jose De Caires Goncalves.

The Murder In The Morning

One really sunny day,

In the sweat sandy bay.

Someone had to leave,

But no one would believe.

He went to get some food,

But he was not in the mood.

He didn’t see the man in black,

At the time when he came back.

The young girl saw the death,

She couldn’t hold her breath.

Nothing was said after the horrible death,

The last thing she ever felt was here brothers last breath.

She never went outside to play according,

To the murder in the morning.
